Freewheelin' Pilgrim

The Ramblings and Misadventures of a Wayward Gentleman

The Ongoing Confusion of my Mind. Part One

with 99 comments

In an attempt to be like a lot of other bloggers, I thought I’d write a bit about my life in general.

Ok, so last year I took a break from University because I couldn’t get motivated. So I took a year off. Then in November, I thought “I’d like to be a teacher!” so I switched my degree from a Bachelor of Arts to a Bachelor of Education. So University is back again, and I read up on the units I’m studying. Turns out an Education Degree, without first completing  an Arts Degree, is 6 YEARS. So, your hero decided he’d switch back to an Arts Degree with a double major in English Literature and Journalism.

Now, this all seems straightforward.  Maybe SLIGHTLY confusing, but more or less straightforward. But here’s where it gets complicated. I saw an advertisement on TV last night advertising a ministry college. Ever since I was a child, I’ve been somewhat obsessed with religion, and being a Minister/Reverend/Pastor/Preacher is REALLY appealing. But turns out they already began their semester three weeks ago. So I send them an email asking whether I could commence studying there in second semester. They get back to me and tell me it’s fine and that if I so desired, I could start this week (but not wanting to be behind the 8-ball, I think that I’d best start at the beginning of a semester).

So, what do I do?! Do I continue half-heartedly with an Arts Degree for the next two years with the intent of becoming a teacher after a further 2 or 3? Do I continue with my Arts Degree for this semester and fork out $1600 for a semester of learning which would be more or less useless, and then commence with the Ministry College? Or do I simply get a low-wage job and quit higher education completely?!

  1. First of all, I love that you have category devoted entirely to rants 😀

Second of all, which path would make you the happiest? Remember, what you study can impact what you do for the rest of your life. You want to be happy for the rest of your life, don’t you? Go with whatever seems the most enjoyable and fulfilling for you. If you feel half-hearted or unpassionate towards something, don’t do it. You don’t want to be stuck that way. Whatever you choose, don’t quit and get a low-wage job! That’s loser-y!(for lack of a better word)

    Hope I helped.

  6. 1. I’ve been saying it all week 😦 it’s just so hilarious how he says it! There’s Ava, merrily offering the chimp bubblegum and suddenly Gabe waltzes in and snaps her head off!

    2. We would make such a good screwball comedy team!

  7. 1. I’m going to start saying it too and see if my friends think I’m weirder, if that’s possible!

    2. Oh my God can you imagine?! 😀

    2. And what’s our hilarious predicament? 😀

    Mark

    March 3, 2011 at 11:31 am

  13. 1. No they don’t, you’re right!

    2. Anything you want it to be! Something new happens to me everyday, so I’m kinda jaded to hilarious predicaments. For example, yesterday my friends and I found a freshman’s planner and messed around in it (remind me to post about that!) Later on that day, we almost broke the mustard dispenser in the cafeteria, because my friends just HAVE to eat fries with mustard and mayo mixed together (ACK). Having no strong gents in school, one dame needs to hold the dispenser (friend) and the other needs to smack the pump with her small fist of iron (me). We successfully sprayed mustard everywhere and got yelled at by the lunch lady. That’s just a normal day in my life.

  14. 1. I can picture you sitting there, not saying much, but when you do, it’s a razor-sharp witticism!

    2. That first part made me howl! But the second part made me gag! Mustard and mayo?! Bleeeeech!

  31. Haha nice one! On a totally random note, is it true your toilet flushes the wrong way because you live on the other side of the world? That’s what my friend told me (the one who said platypuses are poisonous lmao)

    Carole Irene

    March 7, 2011 at 4:29 am

  32. That’s quite true! Unlike her other claim which is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.

    Mark

    March 7, 2011 at 7:25 am

  33. COOOOOLLL. If I ever go to Tasmania, I’m so flushing all the toilets I come across.

    Mark

    March 8, 2011 at 6:55 pm

  45. Aww you cutie of course! I’ll hold it the whole time, even if our hands get all sweaty 😉
In Brooklyn, I want to take you to the 1940s soda shop, walking along the shore, the Jewish neighborhood, the park, Coney Island, and I really can’t think of anything else here. In Manhattan, I want to take you to the Film Forum so we can watch classic films, Planet Hollywood restaurant so you can eat sucky food while enjoying Hollywood memorabilia, toys r us so you can knock yourself out (and ride the ferris wheel), madame tussaud’s wax museum so we can pose with the figures, THE METROPOLITAN MUSEUM OF ART!! (my fav) so we can get lost among the art (they also have some great pieces from the 20s and 30s), Times Square because everyone needs to see that, Chinatown so you can see the weirdest stuff in the world, and…whatever else you would like to see!!! 😀
